SWINDON Spitfires were the big winners in the Swindon & District League Premier Division over the Easter weekend, romping to a 9-0 win over bottom side Spectrum.

League leaders Tawny Owl further extended their perfect campaign with their 15th victory of the season.

They proved much too strong for third-placed Bassett Bulldogs in an impressive 5-1 win at home.

North Swindon WMC were unable to make the most of home comforts as they were beaten 3-1 by Swindon Centaurians, while the final game in the top flight was a much tighter affair as Sportz Central edged out hosts FC Dorcan 1-0.

There was a goal glut in Division One as the back of the net was hit 33 times across the four games played.

The majority of those came in Core Construction’s thrilling 7-4 win over hosts New Town All Stars as they edged towards sixth place.

League leaders Sport 4 Pinehurst were the highest scores of the afternoon when they registered an 8-2 away win over third-placed Lower Stratton.

Old Town United were also able to wrap up all three points in convincing fashion as they picked up a 6-2 success at the expense of visitors Cricklade Park Rangers.

Meanwhile, Chiseldon were left with a familiar feeling as they lost their 18th league game of the season. This time, they were beaten 2-1 by Haydon Wick.
