SWINDON Supermarine manager Dave Webb has his eyes on the prize in tonight’s Wiltshire Senior Cup final at the County Ground.

Marine come up against Hellenic League Premier Division side Highworth Town, who boast a handful of former Marine players, most notably Ashley Edenborough, Ross Adams and former skipper Chris Taylor.

While Marine start as favourites because of their higher league status, Webb is not underestimating the quality in the Worthians’ ranks.

“It is down to the players now. All I can do is select a team who I think will be the best team to go out and win the game,” said Webb, whose side finished seventh in Southern League Division One South & West.

“They need to step up to the plate against a team who are playing in a lower division.

“We go into the game as favourites, but looking at the players they have got, they have a lot of Southern League experience in there.

“It will be more of a Southern League game than a Hellenic League game. It will be a good game. There will be a lot of interest and I am expecting a big crowd.

“The players will be told what to expect. I have watched them (Highworth) a few times this season and they have good players who can cause us problems.”

Webb reckons his side can reap the benefits of the match taking place on Swindon Town’s pristine playing surface.

“It is a Football League stadium so the pitch is properly looked after, it will be in good nick as it always is,” added the Marine manager.

“It is a big pitch as well so there will be space and hopefully we will be able to take advantage. I want to see us play our brand of football.

Webb will be without Ryan Campbell, who is cup-tied after featuring in the earlier rounds with Chippenham Town, while defender Joe Shepherd is ruled out with a broken leg.

Meanwhile, Highworth Town boss Jeff Roberts is more than happy with his side’s underdog status.

“Obviously Supermarine will be favourites but it is a massive game for everyone at the club,” said The Elms boss.

“There is no pressure on us at all because we are underdogs. We will go out as normal and try and take the game to them because we have nothing to fear.

“Personally, I think if we turn up, they are there to be beaten, it just depends who wants to win it on the day.

“Hopefully we have enough confidence in our side to give them a go. We trained on Tuesday and all the boys were buzzing.

“On our day, we can beat most sides, it just depends on whether we all turn up and perform.”

The Worthians will also have two missing for the game as Keiron Gleed is sidelined by a broken arm, while Tony Joyce is out with a fractured foot.
