TAWNY Owl manager Anthony Pascarella says victory in tomorrow’s Swindon Advertiser Cup final would be a satisfying consolation for missing out on the aim of a perfect season.

Pascarella’s side stormed to a second straight Premier Division title in the Swindon & District League after finishing with a 100 per cent record from their 20 fixtures and only Division One side Old Town United stand in their way from making it back-to-back doubles at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground (KO 3pm).

The ambition this season was to go one better and finish with three trophies, but those hopes were dashed when they were beaten 3-2 by Luxol St Andrews, of the Trowbridge & District League, in the final of the Wiltshire Junior Cup last month – Tawny’s only loss in 2016-17.

Pascarella says that 3-2 defeat is all the incentive his team needs tomorrow in Royal Wootton Bassett as they hunt a fourth Adver Cup crown in five years, having also triumphed in 2013 and 2014 under their previous guise as Fratellos.

“We’ve won it a few times recently and it’s a cup we like to do well in,” said Pascarella.

“We wanted to win three trophies this year but if we end up with two, we’ll be pretty happy with the season.

“That means we have to win this one now after the disappointment of the last one. We don’t want to lose two cup finals in the same season.

“I hope we can use the disappointment of the last final as motivation in this one to make sure we win it.”

Tawny will be overwhelming favourites to lift the trophy again, having won all but one of the games they have played this season, but Pascarella has warned his side against complacency.

Old Town ran champions Sport 4 Pinehurst close in the Division One title race and beat top-tier sides Swindon Spitfires and FC Dorcan on their way to the final.

“We are feeling good about it but although I don’t know too much about them (United), they must be a good team as well to have reached the final. I think it should be a good game,” said Pascarella.

“There are a few of us running the team this year and we always say that if everybody plays well, we have no doubt that we will win.

“Unfortunately, football is not quite as simple as that so we will still have to turn up and not take anything for granted.”

It is also Premier Division versus Division One in the preceding George Thomas/Don Rogers Cup final as top tier side Ramsbury take on Wroughton Reserves (KO 11am).
