SWINDON & District League Premier Division champions Tawny Owl retained the Swindon Advertiser Cup with a 5-1 victory over Division One side Old Town United in the final this afternoon.

Earlier in the day, Wroughton Reserves caused a shock in the George Thomas/Don Rogers Cup final as the Division One outfit triumphed 3-0 against top-tier side Ramsbury at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground in Royal Wootton Bassett.

Tawny’s quest to win a fourth Adver Cup in five years got off to the dream start as Jack Allan headed them in front from a corner with just six minutes on the clock.

Kenny Hawkins was then felled in the Old Town box shortly afterwards, with Lewis Page slamming home the resulting penalty to double the advantage inside 10 minutes.

Godfrey Chlanga gave Old Town hope midway through the half with a crisp strike from the edge of the box but Tawny needed less than two minutes to restore their two-goal cushion as Hawkins bundled home from close range.

Anthony Pascarella’s troops moved further clear before the break when Lewis Waldon chased Allan’s ball through to rifle past keeper Chris Wood.

After an action-packed first half, just a single goal arrived in the second 45 minutes and it came the way of Tawny on the hour mark as Richard Gee slammed home from Allan’s knock down to complete the rout and seal a second straight league and cup double for Pascarella’s men.

Following a slow start to the earlier George Thomas/Don Rogers Cup final, Wroughton got their noses in front 10 minutes before the break when Jack Hill beat the Ramsbury offside trap to race in on goal, round keeper Chris Proctor and square for Daryll Chambers to score.

Wroughton were the dominant side in the second half but spurned a host of chances before Hill finally made one count with 15 minutes to go, converting following a corner.

And the rout was complete in the closing stages when Chambers again caught the Ramsbury defence napping to charge in on keeper Proctor and bag his second goal of the game.
