AFTER recording a 1-1 draw at home to Longlevens in the FA Cup extra preliminary round, Fairford Town boss Jody Bevan admits he was disappointed with his team’s performance.

The first 45 minutes went by without either side getting on the scoresheet, before Lee Smith opened the scoring at the beginning of the second half.

The hosts, who were playing in front of 102 fans at Cinder Lane, were then pegged back at the half way stage of the second instalment when Brad Martin slotted past Ben Mitchell.

Following the draw, Fairford will now have to travel to the Gloucester side on Tuesday night for a replay, where the winners will face Hanwell Town in two weeks’ time.

This is the second time this season Bevan’s men have claimed a 1-1 draw, with their first coming against Tuffley Rovers on the opening day of the Hellenic League Premier Division season.

“We are still in the game. It wasn’t the performance I was looking for so I was a little bit disappointed,” said Bevan.

“I don’t think we played anywhere near what we are capable of, I think we just rushed our play throughout the game.

“It’s early days for us still. It is early in the season and we didn’t get a lot of practice in pre-season with the whole group together.

“We are working on things and thankfully, we have the opportunity to put things right on Tuesday night.”

Meanwhile, Royal Wootton Bassett Town saw their cup hopes brought to an end as they were beaten 2-1 at home to Crawley Green.

Bassett started well and took a first-half lead through Nathan Gambling in the 23rd minute before the visitors responded 10 minutes later with a goal of their own, scored by Henry Mungwira.

The second half was a cagey affair but it was the visiting side who found the breakthrough when Michael Moss got up well to meet a Martin Collins cross to score the deciding goal.
