SWINDON Supermarine weren’t at their best, according to manager Dave Webb following their 1-1 draw at Cinderford Town.

The visitors were lucky to come away with the point after the hosts missed a penalty late on to snatch a 2-1 win.

Webb’s side got off to a less-than-ideal start as the home side were ahead in the opening 10 minutes of the game, when Declan Morley-Lyne slotted home in the sixth minute.

After going into the break a goal down, Webb got the reaction he wanted when Ryan Morgan levelled proceedings three minutes into the second instalment.

Despite not getting the win, manager Webb was happy to come away with a hard-fought draw.

“From my perspective and the club’s perspective you want to get your first point on the board,” said Webb.

“Cinderford is a difficult place to go and they are a decent side. They have just come down so I’m happy just to get something on the board.

“I think there is a lot more for my team to give, overall I think it is a good point and puts an emphasis on Tuesday.

“We weren’t anywhere near what we are capable of yesterday and the players will admit that. We weren’t at the level we were in during pre-season.

“When we do get to that level, we will be a match for anyone in the league but I am happy with a point, given our level of performance.

“I think that is a sign of a good team, to get something from the game when you aren’t at your best.”

Webb was also handed a blow ahead of their season-opener as it was announced defender Jack Alexander has left the club to sign for Halesowen Town.

“He had an offer, he’s ambitious and wants to play at the highest level he can, I’m disappointed to lose Jack to be honest,” added Webb, who isn’t actively looking for a replacement.

“Jack was definitely in contention to start for us, but he made a late call to go. He’s a fantastic lad and a great player.

“He’s been a pleasure to manage over the last couple of seasons but the door is always open to him if he feels it’s not for him.

“I wish him every success. We have John Else who is a decent right-back, he played yesterday and did well.”

Swindon Supermarine return to action on Tuesday evening when they welcome North Leigh to the Webbswood Stadium.
