ROYAL Wootton Bassett Town manager Rich Hunter says that the key to his side’s recent upturn in fortunes is down to consistency.

The Gerard Buxton Sports Ground side made it four wins in row on Saturday as they won 3-0 at Highmoor Ibis in the Hellenic Premier Division.

A Steve Yeardley penalty, after Ben Lodge had been hauled down, two minutes before the interval gave the visitors the lead.

And while Bassett looked strong in the second half, they had they to wait until the final 10 minutes to put the game to bed as player-coach Sam Collier came off the bench to make it 2-0.

Bassett put the gloss on a fine display on the road with a few minutes remaining when Harvey Scoles grabbed a third.

“We were missing a few players, so it was a really good win for us,” Hunter said.

“It was a good performance and three good goals. The penalty was stonewall and it made the team-talk at the break a lot different.

“Sam Collier came on and scored a good goal and then we caught them on the break to get our third.

“That is four wins in a row for us now, we have put in some really good performances and we have kept three clean sheets.

“Having been able to have a consistent squad over the last four games has helped massively.”

The win for Bassett moved them up to 11th in the table.

Second-placed Highworth Town, meanwhile, maintained their perfect start to the league campaign as they romped to a 6-2 win at Ascot United.

Kieran Gleed helped himself to a hat-trick at the Racecourse Ground as Jeff Roberts’ men made it eight from eight, while Wayne Turk, Callum Parsons and Nick Stanley were also on target.

Elsewhere in the Premier Division, Jody Bevan’s wait for a league win as Fairford Town manager continues after his side suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Binfield.

Ian Davies and Alex Colverd gave the visitors a 2-0 lead after only 15 minutes before Lee Smith grabbed an 82nd minutes consolation.

Gareth Davies’ return to management was not a happy one as his new Shrivenham side suffered a 4-1 defeat at Reading YMCA in the first round of the Berks and Bucks County Senior Trophy.
