SWINDON Supermarine made it nine games unbeaten this season with a narrow 1-0 win over Didcot Town at the Webbswood Stadium.

With more than 400 fans supporting Dave Webb’s side to celebrate chairman Jez Webb’s birthday, Josh Parsons finally broke the deadlock in the 72nd minute, slotting home from the penalty spot.

The win is Marine's fifth in a row, but despite picking up all three points Webb thinks there is still plenty to come from his side.

“I said to the boys we have set such high levels and when we don’t quite reach the levels that we expect, we can be a bit critical of them,” said Webb.

“At the end of the day it is nine games unbeaten and they have managed to find a way to win, which is always a good habit to get into.

“We know we can do better. The three substitutes certainly enhanced our performance. We got the penalty, I know they (Didcot) are not happy about the penalty but he’s definitely pulled him (Parsons) down.

“We did enough to win and it has been a great start. But, I still think we can be so much better than what we have showed.

“I can’t ask for much more of them. We have won, we got a clean sheet and I know we can do much better which is quite a frightening thought.”

With the game at 0-0 with 20 minutes left to play, Webb praised the impact made by substitutes Jack Alexander, Joe Shepherd and Ryan Campbell.

“We decided to bring Jack Alexander on. He’s just come back to the club and probably isn’t as fit as he was before he left,” added the manager.

“When he came on he did well. We needed a bit more width and he’s natural at going forward so that is why we changed that.

“Joe Shepherd comes on in midfield and does what he does.

"He brings that little bit more aggression and breaks the play up really well.

“Ryan Campbell made a difference, I speak about it every week but it is a team effort and they all deserve credit.''

Webb will now turn his attention to Tuesday night’s clash with Salisbury, and will have look to take Supermarine’s unbeaten run into double figures and six wins on the spin with a victory.
