HIGHWORTH Town’s Hellenic League campaign has now hit record-breaking status after they took an iron grip on the Premier Division with a 3-1 victory at nearest rivals Flackwell Heath on Saturday.

The Worthians set a new club-best mark by securing their 11th straight league triumph at the start of the campaign to move five points clear at the top of the standings with Ashley Edenborough netting a brace.

Edenborough opened the scoring three minutes in at Wilks Park and although Tom Willment levelled for the home side three minutes later, Jeff Roberts’ visitors went in front before the interval as Edenborough notched another from the penalty spot six minutes from half-time.

Flackwell lost Liam Tack and Willment to red cards in the second period and Aaron Ferris completed a thoroughly professional day’s work for the away side by notching the third in injury time.

Worthians boss Jeff Roberts, whose side go to third-placed Thatcham Town on Tuesday, said: “It was a tight game, but it was always going to be tough there because they (Heath) are a well-organised side.

“I thought we started a bit slowly, if I’m honest and we looked a little nervous but Flackwell is always a hard place to go and they are a difficult side.

“To be honest we could have scored more. They had a couple of sendings-off in the second half. I wouldn’t say it was our best performance but it got the job done.’’ Royal Wootton Bassett’s improvement continued as they made it seven wins in succession in all competitions with a 3-1 success at home to Burnham.

Sam Collier opened the scoring on six minutes but Rich Hunter’s men were pegged back before the interval as Barry Dunbar levelled.

Steve Yeardley restored the advantage shortly after the break and Sam Packer added a third after the hour mark.

Fairford Town failed to build on their first league win of the season in midweek over Tuffley Rovers as they were on the receiving end of a 5-1 drubbing at Thatcham.

Three goals in eight first-half minutes from Ekho Elliot, Joe Blount and Shane Cooper-Clarke put the home side in control although Liam Gale did pull one back shortly before half-time. Harry Grant and a second from Cooper-Clark sealed Fairford’s fate in the second period.

In Division One West, Shrivenham made it two league wins from two under the guidance of new boss Gareth Davies as they swatted aside local rivals New College 6-1 at Barrington Park.

Josh Fowler opened the scoring on eight minutes but Louis O’Shea fired College level before Rob Lincoln restored Shrivvy’s lead 10 minutes before half-time and Fowler’s second earned them a commanding advantage.

Leigh Brown made it four six minutes into the second period and James Prictor and Rob Hendry completed the rout.
