HIGHWORTH Town boss Jeff Roberts admits his side’s stunning early-season form has made them the team that all others want to beat.

Saturday’s 3-1 victory over nearest rivals Flackwell Heath made it 11 straight victories in the Hellenic League Premier Division for The Elms men, who already boast a five-point lead at the head of the standings with more than a quarter of the season gone.

The Worthians have made no secret of their ambitions to achieve Southern League football with work going on to improve the infrastructure at the club should such a move arise.

Roberts’ players are certainly doing their bit on the pitch and can strike another significant blow so early in the title race by lowering the colours of third-placed hosts Thatcham Town tonight (7.45pm).

“What we’re seeing now is that teams are having a go at us,’’ said Roberts.

“Especially in that first 10 or 15 minutes of a match, they really give it a go but we’ve been able to come through that and then get on top of matches more.’’

Elsewhere in the Premier Division, Royal Wootton Bassett Town are also going great guns with seven league and cup wins in a row and make the trip to Windsor tonight (7.45pm).
