HAVING bowed out of two cups in a matter of days, Swindon Supermarine boss Dave Webb is determined not to make it three from three tomorrow.

The South Marston outfit welcome Southern League West rivals Barnstaple Town to the Webbswood Stadium in the preliminary round of the FA Trophy, on the back of two defeats in just five days.

Webb’s side saw their FA Cup adventure come to an end after a 3-2 home loss to Paulton Rovers before they followed that up with a 3-0 defeat to Kidlington in the Southern League Challenge Cup on Wednesday night.

Yet, the Marine boss, who saw his side named the Southern League West team of the month for September, is determined to progress in the Trophy.

“Losing is a bad habit and something we have to address quickly,” Webb said. “It was nice to win the team of the month award, but we have to move on.

“(Last) Saturday was very disappointing, maybe the boys thought that they were already through having been 2-0 up and then on Wednesday we changed things around a bit – but the team should have been strong enough to win.

“I’ve now got a bit of thinking to do to see who I can trust to go out there and get us the win on Saturday. The Trophy is a competition we want to progress in and a win against Barnstaple will just settle everyone down.”

Marine were dealt a blow at Kidlington when the returning Aaron Woodley hobbled off after just five minutes.

“Aaron has had a hamstring problem and Wednesday was his comeback match.” Webb explained.

“I brought him on with about 30 minutes to go and after about five we had to bring him off again – it looks like he’s aggravated it again.

“TJ (Bohane) should have played (following his finger injury) but he missed out with a tooth abscess.”
