WHILE the majority of teams were involved in Wiltshire Junior Cup action, Swindon Spitfires can breathe a sigh of relief after registering their first Premier Division win of the season.

Five games in, Wroughton Reserves stood in their way but goals from Dale Surridge, Jake Roffey, Phillip Legace, Phillip Thapa and Stephen Hughes, who got two, saw Spits claim a first victory.

They didn’t have it all their own way as Wroughton put up some resistance, with Daryll Chambers, Jamie Pidgeon and Shamidur Chokodak finding the net as the game finished 6-3 to the hosts.

Meanwhile in Division One, North Swindon WMC produced a solid performance to beat Highworth Town Development 2-0 away from home, Jason Hodson and Aaron Williams notching for the winners.

Redhouse came close to getting their second win of the season but just fell short to Marlborough Reserves, who edged them out in a 3-2 win at home.

Aaron Hewitt and Ryan Thackray netted for the visitors, while Tom Mooney, Ben Crame and Nathan Good were on target for Simon Brooks’ side.

Swindon AFC were unable to convert home advantage as they lost out to Village Inn 5-2.

Meanwhile, in the county cup, Wheatsheaf proved far superior to their hosts, South Winton & Wishford, recording a 10-0 triumph in the first round of the competition.

Fellow Premier Division side Ramsbury also had 10 goals in their game against Trowbridge & District League side Zeals, and they came out on top in a 7-3 triumph.

Swindon Centurians Spectrum didn’t have the same luck as their top-flight counterparts as they were beaten 5-0 by D.I United away from home in their cup clash.

FC Dorcan had no such issues as they travelled to Chiseldon in their cup fixture, coming out as comfortable 4-1 winners.

Ashton Keynes faced up against Calne Eagles and snatched all three points with a resounding 4-0 home win.

Tawny Owl were handed a home walkover by Railway Social Club.

Swindon Supermarine DC were the only Premier Division side not to progress as they were thumped 8-0 by hosts Redlynch & Woodfalls United.

Division One’s Moredon were unable to break their recent bad spell as their 6-0 defeat at Three Daggers was their fourth in a row across all competitions.

Division One leaders Ruby Removals scraped through following a 5-4 win over the visiting Bakers Arms.

Haydon Wick were glad to get away from league competition, where they are yet to win, to complete a 6-2 victory over Porton Sports.
