ROYAL Wootton Bassett Town will have to claim a win on the road if they are to continue their FA Vase adventure after being handed an away tie in the draw for the second round today.

Bassett boss Rich Hunter will take his troops to the winners of the clash between Portland United and Horndean, who go head-to-head this evening, on Saturday, November 11.

Both teams ply their trade at the same level as Bassett at tier nine in the Sydenhams Football League Premier Divison.

The duo were set to go do battle over the weekend, only for the clash to be postponed because of the threat of Storm Brian.

Horndean are currently fourth in the league standings, with 28 points from 12 games and are on a four-game winning streak.

Portland haven’t been quite as successful, as they lay in 11th place, tallying 20 points, but were 6-0 winners last time out against Baffins Milton Rovers.

Bassett earned their place in the hat for the second round after a come-from-behind 2-1 victory at home to Ampthill Town at the weekend.

That was the third match in this year’s competition for Hunter’s side this term, with Bassett having already defeated Fairford Town and Codicote in the qualifying rounds.
