ROYAL Wootton Bassett boss Rich Hunter says he is a happy man as his side entertain Oxford City Nomads this evening.

Hunter, who took over from Paul Braithwaite over a year ago, has watched his troops enjoy their best run of form since his arrival at the club 421 days ago.

Bassett have suffered just one defeat in their last 12 games across all competitions, which also includes an impressive eight clean sheets.

Following their defeat to Brimscombe & Thrupp, Bassett have recovered well with two wins in their last two games - beating Cricklade Town 4-1 in the Wiltshire Senior Cup before defeating Ampthill Town 2-1 in the FA Vase - something Hunter us keen to continue.

“It’s hugely important that we managed to get back-to-back wins before our game in the week,” he said.

“Bar the game against Brimscombe, which we were never at the races on that day, that is 11 wins in 12 games.

“That’s not easy, it has been fantastic and that is full credit to the guys.

“It is a great run and confidence is high, confidence within the dressing room is great and we always look to go into a game and think we can win which is a nice place to be.”

Hunter is also pleased with the attitude developing among his Basset squad, as they look to make it three on the spin when Oxford City Nomads visit the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground.

Their visitors will be well rested when they head to Wiltshire as they did not have a fixture over the weekend.

However, Hunter will be encouraged by the fact that when the two sides met last year, it was Bassett who came out on top on both occasions.

“The character has been great, that never say die attitude, we always know that we can score and we know we can score more than one,” added Hunter.

“So because of that we know we are always in the game and the lads never give up, they kept fighting.

“It was a matter of time before we got the two goals at the weekend because we dominated and created plenty of chances.”

Meanwhile, Hellenic League Division One West side New College bowed out of the Wiltshire Senior Cup on Monday night with they suffered a 5-0 home loss to Chippenham Park.
