ROYAL Wootton Bassett Town suffered a humbling evening on home soil as they were thumped 5-0 by Oxford City Nomads in the Hellenic Premier Division tonight.

Nomads arrived at the Gerrard Buxton Sports Ground with just 13 points from 14 league outings so far but were a class apart from a Bassett side who were looking to climb into the top seven in the standings.

Despite enjoying knockout victories over Cricklade Town and Ampthill Town in the Wiltshire Senior Cup and FA Vase respectively in recent outings, Rich Hunter’s men have now shipped eight goals and failed to score themselves in their last two league fixtures.

Liam Talboys gave the visitors an early lead, firing in from close range following a corner inside the opening quarter of an hour.

Nomads were then able to double the advantage on the stroke of half-time when Sami Khawaja scored direct from a free-kick out wide.

The visitors were further clear in the opening skirmishes of the second half after Henry Landers produced an emphatic finish to cap off a well-executed counter-attack.

Siyanda Gila then rubbed further salt into Bassett’s wounds as he made it 4-0 to Nomads, converting from Jordi Ngathe’s pass.

And the agony was not over for the home side as Ben Barrett completed the rout with Oxford’s fifth goal at the death.
