SWINDON Supermarine manager Dave Webb was left feeling thoroughly disappointed with his side when a 3-0 defeat to Southern League East Hartley Wintney saw them dumped out of the FA Trophy.

Webb’s Southern League West side were 1-0 down at the 30-minute mark when Jake Baxter slotted home from the spot following a handball.

The game remained at 1-0 until the break, but shortly after the restart, the visitors doubled their lead through former Birmingham City and Queens Park Rangers man Rowan Vine.

The striker leapt well to head home from a corner, on his debut for the Southern League South East side.

It went from bad to worse for Webb at the Webbswood Stadium, when Jack French was on hand to inflict defeat on Supermarine with a long-range effort deep into the second half.

After the game, Webb expressed his displeasure in the display produced by his players and says the result was more than fair.

“We started the game quite brightly to be fair and probably should have scored in the first five minutes, but we didn’t,” said Webb.

“We conceded a penalty and then from there it went away from us and it is a really disappointing result.

“You don’t want to go out of a competition like that, it is disappointing, but we haven’t continued in the same vein from what we showed against AFC Totton on Tuesday.

“We ended up being well beaten in the end and it doesn’t sit well with me, being beaten 3-0 at home in a national competition.

“Not only is it disappointing for the financial reward, it is a competition which can take you forward so I’ve told the players exactly how I feel and it is up to them to look at themselves and react.

“We were very disappointing, from one to 11 today.”

The only positive to come from the game was a return to action for top-scorer Josh Parsons, who was introduced as a substitute, while Webb also provided an update on Aaron Woodley and John Else.

“Josh came on at half time, he has been out for four weeks with a knee injury, so the 45 minutes will do him good,” added Webb. “Clearly his game time fitness still needs to improve, but today would have helped.

“Aaron is probably another week away, but John with concussion should be okay to come back next week.”
