CHIPPENHAM Town will travel to Leamington without top scorer Lewis Powell, after it was confirmed the striker has suffered a broken leg.
The 22-year-old suffered the injury less than a minute into the Bluebirds’ 2-2 draw with Cambridge City, leaving manager Adie Mings short of strikers.
Mings is looking to bring in a new recruit to replace Powell, who recently scored 10 goals in six games, but admitted there will be no new faces before tomorrow’s game.
“I have still got Alan Griffin and Dave Gilroy, and Toby Osman can also play up front so we have got options,” he said.
“We have enquired about a few people but we won’t rush out to get someone.”
It is the second time Powell has broken his leg during his short career after suffering a similar injury while on the books of Bristol Rovers as a 17-year-old, and knew straight away something wasn’t right.
“I heard a crack and my leg went numb straight away so I knew what had happened,” he said. “It’s one of those things you know can happen in football, but you hope it doesn’t.
“When I was 17 I broke my tibia, fibula and my ankle turning for a shot.
“Back then I was told a few clubs were looking at signing me, so that is just the sort of luck I have with injuries.”
