BOSS Dave Webb is running the rule over triallists as he looks to further shape his Supermarine squad for the 2012/13 season.

Former Swindon Town trainee and right-back Elliot Knight and Cirencester midfielder Tom Etheridge have both trained with the Division One South & West outfit in pre-season, while Calne midfielder Jordan Roberts is also attracting the Marine manager’s interest.

So far 10 players have signed for the South Marston side ahead of the upcoming kick-off in August and Webb is also keen to snap up a selection of last year’s players including Dave Bampton, Ash Edenborough and Danny Allen, who have trained but not yet put pen to paper.

“We’re looking at a very strong squad but it’s early days yet. We just want to get as much quality as we can,” said Webb.

“We’re in a great position because we’ve got players who want to train with us and show they have the ability to play at that level.

“It’s healthy because we’ve got quality as well as young players that work hard and push themselves. I believe there are players there who can do it at this level given the opportunity.

“I’m not too concerned about the squad at the moment, although I’d like a bit more experience on board.

“It’s those Supermarine lads from last year that I’m keen to tie down, they will add the experience we need.”

Marine host Wantage in their first pre-season friendly on Saturday and a number of triallists are expected to feature.

Continued work on the Webb’s Wood Stadium surface means the match will be played on the pitch behind the Supermarine Rugby club house.

“It gives me the first opportunity to see different mixes of players playing together and everyone available will get some time,” added Webb.

“You can do all the pre-season you want, but there’s nothing like games to get you fit.”

Marine were originally due to find out their 2012/13 Southern League fixtures today but they will now be released on Wednesday.

Local rivals Cirencester, who like Marine were relegated last season, will also find out their fate next week.

Nathan Rudge’s Chippenham outfit will learn their Southern Premier fixtures on the same day.
