ASHLEY Edenborough has revealed that he turned down offers from several other clubs to sign a new deal at Swindon Supermarine.

The forward, who put pen to paper with the Webbs Wood outfit after their 2-2 pre-season friendly draw with Oxford City on Tuesday night, has scored 39 goals in 157 appearances for Marine spread over two separate spells.

And Edenborough said he was happy to turn down approaches from elsewhere, although he did not reveal the identity of the interested clubs in question, after discussions with manager Dave Webb and assistant Lee Spalding convinced him that Marine will be challenging at the right end of the Southern League Division One South & West table in 2012/13.

“I had some other offers but I always wanted to sign for Marine if we could work something out,” he told the Advertiser.

“We managed to do that so I’m more than happy to sign. I like the club and hopefully we can build a good season.

“I’ve played with Spud (Spalding) before and I know Webby and they’ve re-signed most of the players who were here last season.

“I had some discussions throughout the summer and in the end I’ve signed and I’m happy that I have.

“I enjoy playing for Marine and as long as we had a good enough squad to compete then I was always going to be happy to sign.”

Although Edenborough understands that Webb is overseeing a rebuilding job at Supermarine following their relegation last term, the striker still feels his team could make a serious impression over the coming months.

“We’ve got a good squad here now and you never know what could happen. We’re still in pre-season mode right now, but once you start the season it can go any way,” he said.

“If you start the season well and you win your first few games then expectation get a bit bigger and you start looking at the play-offs.

“If you get to the play-offs anything can happen, we know that, but I think we’ve got a good chance.

“He (Webb) said it’ll take a couple of years when he came in but you never know.”

Meanwhile, full-back Kyle Lapham has also agreed terms at the Webbs Wood Stadium, joining a list of players from last season who have rejoined the club that includes Sam Morris, Harry Etheridge, Danny Allen and Jamie Prictor.
