SWINDON Flames Juniors won 6-4 in their most recent visit to Farnborough, while the club’s youth team has been involved in two close-finishing high-scoring contests.

In a Junior clash with Ash Avalanche, Flames came out of the blocks quickly and Will Harding gave his side the lead inside two minutes.

With Swindon taking control the same player doubled the lead seven minutes later before Ash reduced the deficit with five minutes of the half remaining.

The Flames did not heed the warning and Ash levelled a minute later, to see the two sides into half-time level. In the second period the Flames piled forward but were unable to find the net and after eight minutes Ash broke forward to take the lead.

Liam Coleman brought the sides level with just over six minutes remaining but the success was short-lived as Ash responded 11 seconds later.

Coleman struck again to level the scores and then set up Dylan Bonner for the lead before completing his hat-trick with 25 seconds left to ensure the win.

Coleman was also highly prominent in the youth team’s two most recent games, both of which turned out to be high-scoring.

Against Oxford the Swindon side were two down before Coleman responded with two goals to level matters. Oxford scored twice more before Oliver Dunsmore scored his first goal for the club to leave Flames 4-3 down at the break.

In the second period, Oxford began to extend their lead but goals from Reed Sayers, Harry Gobey and Liam Coleman kept the Flames in contention until midway through the second period a five-goal burst from Coleman (4) and Gobey put their side into a two-goal lead with just over two minutes left. Oxford though were not finished and produced their own stunning burst with three goals in 39 seconds to snatch the game away from Swindon 12-11.

Against Banbury Bulldogs, the lead changed hands during the first period, with the Bulldogs scoring first before the Flames replied with the teams eventually tied at 4-4 at the break. Coleman (3) and Gobey got the goals.

In the second period, goals from Coleman, Charlie Browning and Dylan Jackson soon opened up a three-goal lead before Banbury could respond. Gobey extended the lead again only for the Bulldogs to score twice more to narrow the gap to one with over eight minutes of the game remaining.

Both sides failed to register until inside the last two minutes, when captain Coleman scored his fifth goal to extend the lead to two and make certain of his team’s 9-7 victory.

Flames are looking to recruit new members at all levels and are especially seeking new members for the newly formed Pee Wee (under 12) team. Training is held weekly at the Link Centre on Saturdays from 10am-11am under the guidance of GB ice hockey coach Mark Beggs.
