THERE’S only one word which comes to mind when trying to describe my first game for Swindon Storm last weekend and that’s ‘epic’.

When I woke up on Sunday and realised I was going to put the full kit on for the first time with the team colours to play in our pre season game against Bury St. Edmonds, I just had a big smile on my face.

Heading down to Supermarine we got our kit on then headed out to the field to do our warm-up.

After the warm-up we had a practice at field goals.

After we had done this it was time to line up for coach Bennett to announce the starting line-ups for offence and defence and then special teams. For me I was picked to do kick return and punt teams.

The buzz you get standing there watching as the first kick takes place to start the game is something you can not describe. The game was fantastic as we took early control of the game with the offence and defence doing a superb job.

When the time came for me to get on the field we had a punt and there was no time to get nervous as you had a job to do and just had to remember everything that we have been taught. It was an amazing feeling coming off after the play to know that we had done our job and done it well.

We ended up winning the game 19-8. It gave us a good indication of what to expect in a full game situation but this is only the start and there are better, stronger, teams out there so we have to get ready.

On Wednesday it was time for our video review of the game. This was very educational for the rookies as it pointed out little things that we needed to change and adapt but also the good things as well. There is not long till out first game this weekend so the buzz through the team is unreal.

Make sure you come down and support us on Sunday at Supermarine. There’s free entry as well as food and drink available.
