TWO consecutive weekends saw Wiltshire's junior and senior badminton players in competition for honours at the Christie Miller Sports Centre in Melksham.

In the U13 singles, both William Cooper and Emily McKenzie had good days with both winning both singles and doubles with Reuben Stringer and Rebecca Hatherly respectively. The U15s boys singles saw Marcus Raymond take his first county singles title after beating Charlie Strickland in the final. For the girls, it was Abigail Chittenden’s day, beating Rosie Postlewhite into second place.

Both players paired up to take the doubles title over Leagh Eagleton and Helena Sugden. In the boys doubles, Strickland and Jack Agnew beat Lorcan Purser and Jack Outterside.

The U17s had the number one seed Josh Musty cementing his position at the top by taking the singles, doubles and mixed titles. In the singles he cruised through the group stages to face Joe Hulbert in the final, winning 21-12, 21-10.

In the doubles final Musty, partnering Gary McDonald, overturned Joe Hulbert and Dominic Hurley to win 20-21, 21-12, 21-12.

In the mixed doubles Musty, partnering Leasha John, picked up his third title beating Gary McDonald and Freya Lock-Pullan.

Lock-Pullan won the U17 singles, beating John, before they paired up to defeat Lauren Chittenden and Lucy Aitken doubles crown.

The following weekend it was the seniors turn to fight for bragging rights.

The ladies singles saw Lisa Turner secure her ninth consecutive senior singles title, beating Ella Scott-Humphries in the final.

The men's singles had one of the biggest surprises as U17s champion Musty made it to the final.

But in a thrilling contest against Jon McDonald, the teenager went down 21-16, 16-21, 16-21.

McDonald, partnering Jason Plant, were involved in another three-set thriller trying to upset the form book against two-time winners and favourites, Simon Woodhouse and Gary Davies, who retained their title 19-21, 21-14, 21-17.

In the ladies, the county first pairing of Sarah Boyce and Alice Perry beat Emma Davies and Megan Gibson 21-13, 21-16.

The mixed doubles had the icing on the cake for an eventful days badminton, as a superb final encounter between Gary Davies - Sarah Boyce and Jason Plant-Lisa Turner.

At 1-1, the final set was tough to call with Plant and Turner eventually winning 26-24.
