Seven Swindon fencers took part in the Bristol Premier Foil event.

In the U9 category, Cador Beautyman took part in his second competition ever.

Having won one bout in Cardiff the week before, he was keen to improve on his performance.

After coming first in his pool, the left-hander was seeded ninth in the elimination round.

The fight proved to be a nip and tuck affair, where each time Cador scored a hit, one was scored against him.

Taking the attack to his opponent, Cador succeeded with some well-timed attacks. However, his opponent changed tactics and Cador narrowly lost the fight 8-6.

Elysia Bidgood took part in her second Premier Foil competition in the girls U11 age group.

Bidgood put in a very encouraging performance against competitors with greater experience.

In her pool she finished third, winning three contests and narrowly losing the same number, always scoring several hits in all her bouts.

In the boys U11 event, Sam Ede finished second in his pool before he won his first direct elimination bout 10-6. However, he lost the quarter-final 10-9 on time.

Tom Cole, in his first competition in the boys U11 age group, put in a very encouraging performance and his fights became better and better as the day went on.

In the same age group, Lewis Simpson had an excellent day, fighting each match with steely determination.

En route to a well deserved bronze medal, he eliminated both the first and second seeds in his age class.

This was an excellent display of fencing, where he held his nerve and varied his tactics every time before finally losing 10-8 to the eventual winner.

The U14 boys class contained a great deal of experienced fencers, where both Ewan Young and Adam Steinmetz were defeated in their direct elimination rounds.

Steinmetz day got better the longer the competition went on, particularly when he used distance and started attacking first, confusing his opponent by changing his line of attack.

Young was on the wrong end of a handful of tight decisions and despite an heroic fightback, lost his direct elimination match by three hits.
