THERE was nothing to seperate Highworth Town in their match-up with joint top Spitfires United The Worthys were hoping to show their title credentials despite missing some key players. The hosts put Spits straight on the back foot after a sharp pass from Shannon Gabb put in Hannah Dalgleish on goal but she put her effort just wide.

A long ball over the Highworth back four called for keeper Vanessa Eve to be sharp in clearing her lines. Eve had to be at her best on a couple of occasions to deny Spits’ Mel Bristow.

Highworth applied more pressure and a ball from new fiery winger Pamella Harris lead to Kerry Walklett forcing a late block from the visitors’ defence.

The half’s most controversial moment saw right back Libby Hale’s lofted pass putting Walklett seemingly in the clear to find the back of the net but Highworth were denied a lead by the offside flag, meaning the half ended goalless.

In the second half, Spitfires had a greater share of the play, however still couldn't find the breakthrough. Their best coming in the 56th minute, as Bristow rounded Eve only to see her shot was cleared of the line.

Highworth came at United in the closing moments. Despite the late pressure from Highworth it was United who kept their composure and secured the point to take them top for the first time this season.

Town Ladies development team recorded their first victory of the season, winning 4-2 against Swindon Spitfires development side.

Town took advantage of a nervy Spitfires and took a 15th minute lead through Amy Jolliffe after she broke free of the Spitfires' defence.

An unfortunate slip by Spitfires’ Becky Kench allowed Emily Taylor to make it 2-0, and Alex Ramos made it three before the break.

Any chance of a recovery seemingly disappeared inside 10 minutes of the second half when Cara Costello was dismissed for clipping the heels of a Town attacker as she broke free.

But to their credit the remaining 10 players rallied and made a real go of it. And it was against the run of play that Town scored their fourth, a quick break ended with Jolliffe netting her second just past the hour.

Spitfires reduced the arrears in the 70th minute when a Hayley Shipp corner was handled in the area, and Lisa Matthews gave the keeper no chance with the spot kick.

Hannah Gulliver did get Spitfires second two minutes from time, Vicky Parry doing well to control a Town clearance before setting Emma Broughton away who's cross to the far post allowed Gulliver to slide home.

Town’s young side have been finding their feet in the open ladies section this season and under the guidance of Jason Brissell and Amanda Martin. They have now taken four points from the last two games. Swindon Spitfires replied with two goals but a deserved victory for the Robins.

Spitfires U16s kept their 100 per cent record going with a 8-1 win at FC Chippenham.

The visitors took the lead when Poppy Cottrill layed-off Charley Reynolds on the edge of the area whose shot was fumbled in by Chippenham’s keeper.

Four minutes later Spitfires made it 2-0 from a rapid counter-attack. Chloe Mason’s clearance was superbly controlled by Cottrill on her chest allowing her to slot past the oncoming keeper.

Charley Reynolds made it 3-0 as a failed defensive clearance landed at Reynolds feet and she lobbed the keeper from 20 yards. Megan Ricketts added Spitfires' fourth before the half-hour.

Deller made it 5-0 shortly after, with Cottrill getting the assist.

Chippenham reduced the deficit early in the second half before Daniella Granato opened her account for the day after a fantastic one-two with Jade Staines.

Cottrill added her second for Spits’ seventh, before Granato wrapped up the game when she headed in a lofted Deller cross to make it 8-1.

In the Berkshire Girls League Spitfires' U15s went down 1-0 at leaders Caversham. The home side had the run of the pitch in the first half and dominated the game, but Spitfires' defence stood strong and Danielle Jones in the Spitfires goal was on hand to pull off a string of fine saves.

In the second half it was Spitfires turn to take control. Helena Butcher, Nat and Lucy Goodright all seeing efforts coming back off the cross bar.

However Caversham snatched the win three minutes to go capitalising on a harsh penalty award. Jones got close but could not prevent the spot-kick beating her and save a draw.

Spitfires' U14s drew 1-1 against Sarun Youth thanks to a Charlie Tinson goal, and the U13s were 1-0 winners at Tower Hill through a first half Courtney Gleed strike. And Spitfires U12s secured a 12-0 win at Highworth Town Juniors.

Highworth U12s were spirited despite going down to a one-sided scoreline of 12-0 (awarded the league maximum 8-0 for goal difference purposes) against a strong Swindon Spitfires side. The Highworth goalkeeper pulled off a string of great saves to deny Spitfires extending the scoreline further.
