THERE was a an upset in Division Two as Croft B beat table-toppers Razzle Dazzle 51-45 in a hard-fought game that drew a number of spectators to watch a close ending.

Croft started spritely and caught Razzle on the back foot in the first quarter. Playing a short ball game Croft caused Razzle problems in mid court and had established a 15-10 lead by the end of the period.

Razzle came out strongly in the second and started to stamp their authority on the match. Taking the initiative and lead by outscoring their opponents by 15 goals to three.

The third quarter saw the game turn again after some great defending from Croft. Razzle’s attackers were finding it difficult to feed the ball into their shooters and began to panic.

Croft continued to apply pressure through the mid-court, forcing Razzle into making errors. Using the possession they had gained to eat into Razzle’s lead, Croft levelled the score 35-35 by the end of quarter.

With the crowds now watching this closely contested game both teams came out determined to be the winners. The first few minutes saw the lead go with centre pass, but an interception by the Razzle goalkeeper was converted to give them a two-goal lead.

Seizing their turnover opportunities Razzle took the next three centres to goal and began to establish a lead. Croft’s defending unit combined well to turn over ball allowinng Croft’s attackers to convert a fantastic long range shot to finish the match.

It was a good day for Croft as both their C and D teams won. The D beat Delta Reds C 39-26 and the C had a 61-12 win against Ferndale.

Despite being down to a bare seven Raychem A secured a 63-35 victory over Abbey Meads A.

The team followed coach Claire Baverstock's instructions of staying man-to-man and remaining focused and controlled instructions, reaching the half 36-16 up.

After the break Raychem successfully switched tactics, leading by the end of the third by 29 goals, and ending the game in the rain with a comfortable marigin of victory.

Raychem B team bounced back from a disappointing one point defeat to Abbey Meads with a 42-33 win over Lawn B. Raychem started brightly with their shooters finding their range immediately and the centre court combining well.

Raychem’s defence kept the tall Lawn goal shooter and goal attack at bay, forcing them to shoot from distance.

Some excellent controlled play and feeding together with accurate shooting resulted in a healthy six point lead after the first quarter. The second quarter could not have been any more different - Lawn scored nine straight goals without reply from Raychem and opened up a three goal lead thanks to the accuracy of their GS as Raychem went to pieces.

Coach Baverstock made changes at wing attack and centre for the third period. With Baverstock's stern word ringing in their ears, Raychem came out with guns blazing and quickly levelled the scores, then went ahead to open up a three goal lead in the last two minutes of the quarter.

In the last quarter Raychem stepped up a gear and started moving the ball at pace from back to front. One play involved all seven Raychem players to stretch the lead out to 37-29.

A late rally by Lawn closed the gap to nine goals, reflecting the match’s hard-fought nature.

In Division two Raychem C beat Nationwide B 27-24, while Raychem D maintained top spot in the Division Three beating Abbey Meads D by 13. The Division Four match saw Raychem E beat Burmah by five and in Division Five Abbey Meads E lost out 33-42 to Raychem F.

Wootton Bassett A and B teams also found themselves with good wins the B team triumphing against Marlborough 36-6 .

The A team match against Faringdon was a well contested game with both teams playing some great netball. Although the young Faringdon side played with great spirit,they were unable to break the three-goal lead Bassett had held all game, with the final score 28-31 Bassett.
