WOOTTON Bassett moved into second place in West Clubs League’s East Division by maintaining their unbeaten run with a 4-1 win over county rivals West Wilts at Warminster.

Bassett has a chaotic build-up to their match after a carload of their players arrived only just in time to start.

West Wilts took advantage and enjoyed the majority of possession within the first ten minutes, opening the scoring when a long cross into the D was converted.

Bassett bounced straight back and within minutes, Rebekah Taylor converted a one-on-one chance, calmly taking her time to place the ball just out of the oncoming keeper’s reach.

Bassett survived going down to 10 players courtesy of a yellow card before taking the lead.

Fine work in midfield by Vic Sammon released an accurate ball up into the D for Abi Turner to latch onto.

The initial shot was saved by the keeper but Kelly Lusted slotted the ball home on the left post.

Bassett improved in the second period, with their third goal coming early on when Emma Collison made an interception on the left and ran the ball all the way to and along the back line before passing to Lusted, who swept home her second.

West Wilts tried to fight back but the Bassett defence held strong and defended a number of short corners.

And then on the closing minutes of the match, Bassett were awarded a short corner, which Becky Thomas found the net from with a drag-flick.
