COMMONWEALTH gold medallist Jazz Carlin has admitted that she would love to have Swindon as her training base, but the town does not have a suitable pool.

The 24-year-old swimmer has been on the search for a place to train since the closure of her Swansea base as one of British Swimming’s intensive training centres last December.

The news coincided with her coach of seven years, Bud McAllister, taking a new coaching position in Perth.

The Swindon Tigersharks ace is still on the hunt for a new base but is yet to decide, with qualifying for the Olympics in Rio in 2016 firmly on her mind.

“I am currently training in Swindon this week but I haven’t 100 per cent decided on my decision yet,” she said on her return from the World Short Course Championships in Doha where she won a silver medal in the 800m freeestyle.

“It is something I am going to decide in the next few weeks I think.

“I have been trying out a few places because I don’t think it is a decision I should be taking lightly and just making a quick decision.

“After being with Bud for over seven years I owe it to myself to try out a lot of programmes and make the right decision. I don’t want to look back and regret something.

“That is what was good with me and Bud. He was great with communication and we really strived for the same goals together and having the right atmosphere around.

“Training in a 50m pool is also important. In Swindon, it is disappointing there isn’t a 50m pool here because I think I would still be in Swindon if there was and it is tough.”

Despite all the disruption the former Wootton Bassett School pupil claimed double gold at the European Championships in the 400m and 800m freestyle before claiming gold at the Commonwealth Games in the 800m freestyle this summer.
