SWINDON Shock’s West of England Basketball Association (WEBBA) Division One mens team rose highest to take first place by beating Lockleaze Renegades 71-62 earlier this week.

After losing their first game in two years to the Renegades earlier in the season, Shock went on the road to take revenge, winning out by nine at St Bedes School. The win put Shock atop Division One with five games remaining.

Shock coach David Colclough was pleased with how his side managed their opponents, he said: “Tonight we took advantage of the size matchup, and our big guys Pawel Zasgorski and Matt Ford really played a strong physical game.”

Up by 20 points, Lockleaze made an impressive charge to cut Shock’s lead to six points before Matt North and Lee Hobbis hit back to put Shock up 61-51.

A late steal by Antonio Wilburn sealed the game as Shock hold on for the 71-62.

The WEBBA team resume their campaign in January but Shock’s national league side play this Saturday at 3pm against Bristol.
