ABBEY Meads Rangers continued their unbeaten in 2014 with a narrow 3-2 win at home to South Cerney, their eighth league success in a row.

Rangers’ strikers went straight into action with Imogen Wilkins and Giovanne Pungitore driving straight at goal, with Wilkins sending the first goal into Cerney’s net.

Moments later Cerney struck back, beating the in-form keeper Brandon Ricketts to make the match all square.

Play continued and moments later Cerney scored again from a long low shot just getting past the keeper’s fingertips, putting Rangers behind for the first time this season.

Rangers settled and pushed on again, with Wilkins passing a ball through to Jack Lampard who tapped it in.

Following half time, the end-to-end play was keeping both keepers busy. It was Rangers who scored next, Wilkins getting on the end of a Kevin Prouse cross to calmy place home.

Cerney’s keeper saved a last minute barrage from Nathan Goodenough and Dejan Broja.

The visitors then went back on the attack but Rangers’ defence, in the shape of player of the match Connor Horgan and Ryan Martin, kept the scoreline to 3-2to see the game out.

SWINDON Supermarine J produced a below par performance as they suffered a 1-3 home defeat to bottom side Highworth Town H.

The visitors took a deserved lead after Josh Godwin wasted a great chance when he shot wide inside the area, which turned out to be the hosts only chance in the first half.

Highworth continued to pile on the pressure after going one up. But for some strong defending from Harley-Shaun Platt and Ben Dixon, Marine could have gone in at half time further behind than the slender one goal deficit.

Marine did improve slightly in the second half and in their best spell of the match Aaron Dyer pounced on a loose ball to stab the ball into the roof of the net to score on his debut to gain parity.

Soon after Dyer had a great chance to grab a second but the visiting keeper pulled off a fine save.

This was as good as it got for the home side and soon after the Worthians went ahead when poor defending gifted the visitors a goal. Home keeper Josh Pickett pulled off a couple of great saves to keep the score line down.

However the visitors pounced to grabbed a third goal in the final minute to claim their first league points of the season with a resounding three one win.
