SWINDON pool player Jason Godbeer is jetting off to Malta tomorrow to compete for the England A team in the European Pool Championships.

Godbeer, who plays and trains at the 147 Club in Sheppard Street, secured his place in the A team after competing at an internal trial at the 147 Club in Leicester.

He claimed his place alongside Shane Robinson from Nottingham after winning five of his six matches and the pair will be joined by current World and European Seniors champion Keith Brewer and current World Seniors’ Masters champion Stacey Vine.

Godbeer will set off for the week-long event tomorrow and he looks keen to take his chance in the England squad having missed out last year in Blackpool.

“I was disappointed to miss out by one win to secure a B team place for the World Championships held in Blackpool last June but I produced a quarter-final finish in the World Senior Singles event,” he said.

“I am hoping to keep my good vein of form shown at Leicester going and take it forward to even bigger success in Malta.

“I feel very honoured and privileged to be representing my country for the A team and the players I will be lining up alongside will be a source of inspiration for me.”
