FOUR juniors from Swindon Fencing Club travelled to Esher in Surrey for the second round of the GB Youth Series.
In the under 11 boys, Edward Scott-Payne only lost one fight in his poule round five-four and was seeded 13 going into the elimination rounds where he convincingly took out the 20th seed 10-6, followed by the 4th seed 10-5.
He then dispatched the fifth seed 10-3 before losing in the semi-final 10-4.
Eleven-year-old Ben Simmonds competed in the under 14 category and put in a strong performance in the poule fights, winning three out of four to be seeded fifth in the elimination rounds where he finished a credible 10th.
In her first ever competition, eight-year-old Elloise McConnell did fantastically well in the under-nines girls to make it through to quarter finals before having to withdraw with a hand injury.
Cador Beautyman fought well in the under-nines boys winning all his poule matches to be seeded fourth and receive a bye in the next round.
He then beat the fifth seed 10-5 but was then beaten in the quarter finals.
Coach Neil Bromley said: "Elloise and the boys did really well at a difficult competition where the standard is very high. For everyone to get a top 10 place is brilliant.
"This was a very encouraging performance from all four children whose fencing just keeps improving."
