SWINDON Storm’s Junior Varsity team have made the Bristol Community League final in their first year.

The under 21s team has been created as a stepping stone for young senior-aged players.

They face the Bristol Gators tomorrow for HUD Bowl III at Filton College, Bristol (Kick-off 1pm).

Meanwhile, three of the Junior Varsity squad have been selected for South Gloucestershire & Stroud College’s American Football Academy.

The Bristol-based college has sent more than 20 players to the US on high school and college scholarships.

Offensive linesman Myles May, linebacker Leon Klosowicz and quarterback Alex Bowers all have less than 12 months' experience but have represented the Storm in the Bristol Academy League and impressed the SGS Academy Staff.

Storm head coach Steve Bennett said: "The future is bright for our young hopefuls. With such an amazing academy on their doorstep, they really do have the chance to live their dreams of playing football in the States."

This Saturday, the Storm held their annual course for 20 coaches new to the sport.

The one-day course is perfect for professional multi-sport coaches who work in schools and people new to coaching altogether.

Bennett said: “I know from personal experience how difficult it is to get started in coaching. We offer a one-stop-shop."
