COTSWOLD Flyball Club will host their first ever BFA nationally-sanctioned tournament at the Great Somerford Showground this weekend.

The competition will see 48 of the South of England’s top Flyball teams do battle in eight divisions over the two days. More than 250 dogs and handlers will compete for divisional titles and career points, including teams from Surrey, Hampshire and Somerset.

Two of the country’s fastest-ever teams, Bristol Ballistics and The Jets go head to head in Division One, with both teams completing their races in less than 17 seconds.

Cotswold, based near Malmesbury, will be competing against near-rivals The Bassets (Royal Wootton Bassett).

Cotswold Flyball Club was formed in 2011 and regularly punches above its weight in national competitions.

They are the reigning BSH Flyball League Champions for 2014 and have around 50 dogs competing and in training.

Club captain Pauline Caddick said “This is a major milestone in our club’s development and we are all very proud to have been selected to hold a prestigious nationally sanctioned tournament.”

Flyball is the country’s fastest growing dog sport with all competitions are held under British Flyball Association rules and regulations.

All races are timed with fully-calibrated equipment.

Racing takes place from 9am to 5pm each day with anyone welcome to go along and watch. For more information see the club's website cotswoldflyballclub.webs.com.
