IF you were to tell the average Joe on the street here in LA that you’ve been doing well in rehab over the past fortnight, it would have quite a different meaning than the one I intend.

For me, after dislocating my shoulder a month ago, there’s been a lot of rehab lately – but not at a remote Malibu hideaway, instead just in the gym.

My strength is coming back all the time and I’ve been able to progress my swim training significantly. I even returned to our weekly ocean workout this week, which is one of my favourite sessions of the week. Progress.

All being well, I’m looking to return to racing next month at 70.3 Vineman, which is in Northern California, about 90 minutes north of San Francisco.

It is, without doubt, one of my favourite races, so I’m excited at the prospect of not only returning to racing but doing so at Vineman.

When injured, it can be tough at times to stay positive and remain focused, but I feel I’ve really turned a corner in the past week or so and suddenly I’m galloping towards 100 per cent fitness again.

I’m excited to go from strength to strength after Vineman and get plenty more racing in.

Plans are being drawn up as I type and there’s a good chance I’ll be back in the UK/Europe for a spell in the coming months, so watch out Swindon.

I’ll furnish you with details just as soon as I’m able.

While training volume has been reduced over the past few weeks, I’ve had more time for some of the other things I love – such as baking.

For as long as I can remember I’ve loved cooking up a storm in the kitchen and this week reached for my Delia Smith recipes.

Few Americans know much, if anything, about Delia, but plenty of my American friends do now after the hit that was my carrot cake. It did not last long.

I’m looking forward to getting back to the races soon and representing you all. Look out for my next column in two weeks, but in the meantime you can follow my latest happenings via my Twitter and Instagram (@eklidbury) and on my blog at www.eklidbury.co.uk
