TWO Phoenix Taekwondo students, Travis Waite and Frank Wall, have both won golds medals at the the GTI National Championships and PUMA English Championships in the space of just two weeks.

The Swindon club, who train at Dorcan and Stratton, came away with an impressive haul of 17 medals from 12 competitors over the two tournaments.

Instructor John Newman, who won silver himself in the GTI National Black Belt Heavyweight division, said: “I am extremely proud of all of Team Phoenix who have worked very hard, and to have two double champions is testament the their dedication.”

Wall, from Eldene, will be competing in next month’s World Championships in London in July and is hoping to build on his national success.

The 41-year-old competed at the same event two years ago, having only been training 6 months at the time, and came away with two bronze medals.

Twelve-year-old Waite, from Ferndale, is one of the brightest new talents to emerge on the Taekwondo scene, and he has begun dominating his category with a trademark head kick. He’s certainly a force to be reckoned with and one to watch in the future.

Phoenix Taekwondo not only offers traditional Taekwondo training, but also Kickboxing and dedicated Fight Club competition training, which is the formula to the club’s competitive success.
