WILTSHIRE’S men’s and ladies’ tennis teams produced superb performances at the AEGON Summer County Cup late last month and were both were promoted.

The men competed at Bowden LTC in Altrincham, Cheshire, and won all of their matches throughout the week.

Captained by Neil Watts, head coach at Next Generation Swindon, they beat South of Scotland 8-1, Northumberland 8-1, Bedfordshire 5-4 and Shropshire 7-2.

Watts was joined in the team by Steve Yeardley (Next Generation Swindon), Giles Hussey (Millfield School), William Bissett (Team Bath), Taylan Ozdemir (Next Generation Swindon), Ben Langley (Next Generation Swindon), George Nixon (Salisbury TC), Thomas Williams (Devizes) and Matty Morgan (Wootton Bassett).

The ladies were in action at Tunbridge Wells, Kent, and beat teams from Oxfordshire 8-1, Herefordshire & Worcestershire 6-3, Isle of Man 6-3, Suffolk 6-3 and lost to Shropshire on the final day 2-1.

Head coach at Wanborough Tennis Club Becky Prince captained the team, which also included Lauren Prince (Wanborough TC/Next Generation Swindon), Katy Hancock (Wootton Bassett TC/Millfield School), Rachana Patel (Swindon TC/Next Generation Swindon), Sophie Clark (Swindon TC/Next Generation Swindon), Niamh Townsend (Next Generation Swindon) and Mollie Pinkney (Next Generation Swindon).

Both teams will now compete in Group 6 of the competition in 2016.
