JOSH McCarthy has been crowned the 2015 British Teenage Open Darts champion.

The Stratton youngster won the event, which was first held in 1981, and took place in Wolverhampton.

The tournament, despite being called the British Teenage Open, is now open to players from all over Europe and has been dominated by players from Belgium over the last couple of years.

In this year’s event, which again included many top players from Holland and Belgium, the 18-year-old former England Youth International, who plays his darts at the Bakers Arms Pub, came through the 128-strong field in style, beating some quality players on the way to set up a mouth watering final against the defending champion from Belgium Mike De Dekker.

In the final McCarthy came back from being 1-0 and 2-1 down to win 4-2 to claim the title and the £400 prize money.

McCarthy’s name is now added to an illustrious list of previous winners including two-time PDC world champion Adrian Lewis, BDO world champion Stephen Bunting, Wayne Mardle and Kirk Shepherd.
