SWINDON Flames Juniors arrived in Oxford for their final two games of the season against Ash and Oxford needing a point to clinch the BiSHA South Junior League title.

In the first game against Ash Swindon found themselves 2-0 up after five minutes with goals from Richard Wilson and Robert Bean.

A cross-checking penalty against Liam Coleman gave Ash a chance to get into the game but Swindon’s penalty kill restricted Ash to shooting from distance which Lucy Gruber in goal dealt with comfortably.

Dylan Bonner gave Swindon a short-handed goal before Coleman returned from the penalty box to make it 4-0.

Following an Ash timeout, Swindon suffered a lapse in concentration at the back and a power play goal after a penalty on Charlie Browning gave Ash a lifeline but Swindon responded with goals by Harry Llewellyn and Coleman to end the first period 6-2 up.

Having done the hard work in the first period, and with a game against Oxford to come, Swindon eased off the gas and, despite Ash scoring three times,Dylan Bonner secured a 7-5 win to take the league.

Swindon won the final game 5-4 with Bonner opening the scoring after skating from deep in his own defensive zone.

After sustained pressure Oxford equalised but were soon behind again after goals in quick succession from Browning and Tristan Ward gave Swindon a 3-1 lead.

A speculative high ball from Oxford was tipped in close to the Swindon net to narrow the margin to a single goal.

Swindon began the final period leading 3-2 but with Oxford having a two-man advantage.

Swindon showed great determination and scored shorthanded on the break through Coleman to lead 4-2.

Oxford kept pressing and drew level before Wilson slotted the ball through to Llewellyn, who beat the Oxford goalkeeper, to make the score 5-4 to Swindon.
