PATIENCE proved a virtue for Royal Wootton Bassett Town Reserves as they held their nerve to bring their eight-match winless run to an end last weekend.

Bassett got back to winning ways with a 4-3 victory over Corsham Town Reserves last weekend, coming from 2-1 down at half-time to take all three points.

Carl Shepherd’s first-half equaliser was cancelled out before the break.

However, the home side rallied in the second period, with Lewis Tidy, Steve Groom, from the penalty spot, and substitute Luke Adams all netting to see off Corsham, who netted a late consolation goal.

Bassett are 11th in the Wiltshire League table and despite being forced to recover from going behind once again, joint-manager Danny Groom thought that remaining patient was the key to his team’s triumph.

“We always seem to go a goal behind and then end up chasing games – it’s been a little frustrating,” he said.

“If we score four goals, the other team scores five.

“We’ve let in a lot of silly goals and drawn some games that we should have won.

“But even though we were 2-1 down on Saturday, the lads stayed patient and that was a big improvement.

“We got the boys in and made a little tactical change in the second half and then went and went 4-2 up.”

Next Saturday, Bassett make the trip to Woodmarsh to face Trowbridge Town, who moved top of the table courtesy of an emphatic 8-3 win over Chippenham Park Development.

James Vincent starred as he netted four times for Trowbridge whilst Nick Ridout claimed a hat-trick, with Leon Greenland also getting himself on the scoresheet.

Elsewhere, Wroughton hit the goal trail as they thrashed Vale of Pewsey 7-0 but they remain in 10th place.

Marlborough Town were beaten 5-0 by title-chasers Shrewton United, who saw Justice Walters net twice.

Lukas, Craig Lewis and George Plank also got on the scoresheet for the side sitting in second place in the table.

Trowbridge Wanderers’ clash with Alan Griffin’s Malmesbury Victoria at Lambrok Playing Fields fell foul of last weekend’s wet weather, as did Wilts Calne Town’s meeting at Bremhill View with Melksham Town Reserves.
