CIRENCESTER ABC travelled to St Joseph’s in Cardiff at the weekend, with two of its schoolboys in action.

Lewis Varey was picked to represent Wales against Ireland and from the bell, he took the fight to his opponent, from Uslter, who had an impressive eight wins and three losses to his name.

Varey dominated all three rounds and won on a unanimous points decision.

Meanwhile, making his ring debut for Ciren was Sammy Harris in a supporting bout against an opponent from Rhymney-based club Sugars ABC.

In what was a high-tempo and all-action schoolboy bout, Harris won on a split decision.

Ciren coach Simon Knowles said: “Lewis did very well to beat the boy - he was very strong.

“Sam did absolutely brilliant in what was a close bout. To beat a Welsh boxer in his own back garden was an achievement.’’
