SWINDON racer Josh Day has set his sights on the Thundersport GB GP1 championship title after securing a permanent seat with Crank Racing for the 2016 season.

Day joined the team for the final two rounds of last season and delivered the first three wins for the squad in their maiden campaign.

That has prompted Crank Racing team principle, Mark Grimes, to hand 27-year-old Day a place on the team’s striking yellow Kawasaki ZX10-R all year in 2016.

As well as running in the leading club series, Day and the team will enter two rounds of the Pirelli British Superstock 1000 Championship at Brands Hatch and Thruxton as wildcard entries.

He will also contest the 600 class and the Open class at NG Road Racing with Crank’s support, as well as making his North West 200 debut in May.

“It’s fantastic for me to be back with Crank Racing for a full season. I came to the team in time for the last two rounds in 2015 and was impressed with how professional they were as well as with the bike,” said Day.

“I got a few wins for them in the last round and I want to pick up exactly where we left off. There is no reason why we shouldn’t be winning from the word go, and it’s something we’re all hungry for.

“I’m also racing my own 600 in the NG Road Racing Championship as well as making my North West 200 debut so it’s going to be a hectic season but I can’t wait. The team are great, the bike is good – I think it’s going to be an exciting year for everyone.”

Team principal Grimes added: “As far as the racing is concerned, I think we’ve got the whole package and I really believe we can win the championship with Josh.

“He’s a very talented rider with a number of championships to his name and I see no reason why we shouldn’t be winning every weekend.”
