FORMER World Championship finalist Kirk Shepherd walked away with the top prize as he saw off Chris Aubrey to win the Abbey Meads Open last Sunday.
In a field of 64, including the likes of Swindon-based Mark Cox and Lee Evans, Shepherd beat Johnny Haines (7-2) and Aubrey toppled Alan Turnell (7-5) to book their place in the final.
Shepherd proved too much for Aubrey as he beat him 8-3 to claim the £600 prize money, with the beaten finalist claiming £300 and the two beaten semi-finalists earning £100 each.
Chris Savvery was the top placed female and she walked away with £75 for her troubles.
“It was a fantastic day,” said Abbey Meads pub landlord Karl Willcox, who runs the bi-annual event.
