LOUISE Hunt reckons she is hitting her best form of the year after victory at the Bucharest Open put her on the cusp of a return to the world’s top 10.

Wanborough wheelchair tennis ace Hunt made it back-to-back tournament triumphs in Romania at the weekend, having also lifted the trophy at her last competition – the Israel Open in April.

Those successes have seen Hunt, who turns 25 later this month, climb up to 11th in the world rankings as the countdown towards the Paralympics in Rio draws nearer.

The top 22 in the world rankings qualify for the Games automatically, with the qualification window closing within the next fortnight.

London 2012 Paralympian Hunt said: “It was the best I’ve played all year at a tournament from start to finish and I’m really happy to have maintained that high level of performance against some strong opposition all the way through.

“It was a challenging few days with lots of rain, which meant we had to change between outdoor and indoor courts and venues, but the tournament organisers did a great job in ensuring we could get through all the matches.”

British number three Hunt was handed a bye in the first round in Bucharest and kicked off her campaign with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over fellow Brit Lauren Jones in the quarter-finals.

Hunt powered past Spanish third seed Lola Ochoa 6-2, 6-0 in the semi-finals and held on to defeat American second seed Kaitlyn Verfuerth 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 in the final.

Hunt’s success in Romania ensured a victorious end to her last tournament before the international ranking qualification window for the Paralympics closes this month.

After winning singles and doubles titles in Israel last month, Hunt came agonisingly close to making it a twin win in Bucharest as she partnered up with singles quarter-final victim Jones to reach the women’s doubles final.

The Brits made a stirring comeback after a slow start to the final against Vefuerth and Turkey’s Busra Un but they just came up short in the deciding match tie-break, going down 6-0, 4-6, (11-9).
