WANBOROUGH tennis star Louise Hunt says she is happy with her overall performance at Wimbledon, despite a disappointing showing in the singles.

Hunt, who faced her doubles partner Marjolein Buis in the singles last week, was unable to get through to the next round and admitted it was a bad day at the office, losing 6-2 6-0.

She said: “I think a bit more confidence would have been helpful and I think, to be honest, I do struggle with the grass.

“It doesn’t suit my style that much but that is something I can change with a bit more experience. I think the singles was just a bad day at the office.”

The world number 11 did not have time to dwell on her early exit as she was back on court the following day to complete in the doubles.

This proved to be more successful. A win in the opening game meant she was then through to the semi-finals, but this was a step too far after she and her partner crashed out 6-1, 6-3.

The 25-year-old said: “Overall, it was good. I feel like I finished on a bit more of a high because I wasn’t happy with how I played in the singles.

“In the doubles, I really picked myself up, so overall, it has been good.

“I just came out in the doubles and played better. I really like playing with Marjolein. We play well together.”

This year’s Wimbledon was a historic one for Hunt and her fellow wheelchair players as it was the first time that there were singles events.

Hunt said: “It was quite weird. The thing is, every single player was in the exact same position.

“There was a weird tension. I wouldn’t say it was a bad one; it was just so new to all of us “In terms of spectators, it was brilliant. We got a lot of support. A lot of people came down to watch, so that was really good.

“The coverage outside was brilliant. The amount of messages of support I got at home was amazing.”

Away from the tennis, Hunt also had the chance to meet the Duchess of Cambridge and Hollywood heavyweight Bradley Cooper.

She said: “That was cool. I didn’t know I was going to meet Kate (Princess Catherine) – that was random – and then Bradley Cooper was just stood there in the players area.

“I like the guy. I wanted to say ‘hi’ so I just went over.

“He was a bit upset because he was there to see (Roger) Federer and he just lost but it was really cool. I just thought 'why not?' –you don’t get these opportunities very often.”
