SAM Smith is prepared to give up the home corner and make it a winner-takes-all purse in his bid to get Kelvin Young into the ring.

The Paddy Fitzpatrick-trained light-heavyweight novice will top the bill at the Oasis Leisure Centre on November 29 on a Neilson Boxing and King Kane Promotions show.

The 23-year-old from Guildford, who trains at Fitzpatrick’s Gym in Ferndale Road, is looking to move his fledgling career on, he has won all three of his bouts to date, and has been pressing for a fight with Young.

However, the Penhill pugilist, who has topped the bill at the Oasis on several occasions, claimed in order to make the fight happen he must have the home corner.

Initially, Smith and his team refused citing the corner advantage had been contracted to them before talks began with the former IBO inter-continental super-middleweight champion.

But following further talks with Mark and Antony Neilson, the former England amateur agreed to box out of the away corner.

In a further twist, Sniper has offered to make it a winner-takes-all purse or is prepared to pay £1500 to the Swindon charity of Young’s choice should Smith lose.

While Smith has been looking to tempt Young into the ring, the former Southern Area 12 stone champion has been chasing a third fight with old foe Sam Couzens.

Young and Couzens have both won once in their two previous fights with the Keith Mayo-managed fighter looking to settle the score with a decider.

Now trained by Liam Wilkins in Devizes, Young was under the impression that time was running out in his bid to face Couzens believing the Titchfield boxer was going to retire after one more fight.

However, Couzens stated on Facebook on Tuesday morning that he would wanted to give ‘it one last push’ and that he was not ready to retire.

“Kelvin wanted the home corner and now we have given that to him,” Fitzpatrick said. “Now Sniper has said that he is prepare to make it a winner-takes-all fight.

“If Kelvin doesn’t want that, then Sniper has said that he is prepare to pay £1500 to a Swindon charity of Kelvin’s choice should he lose.

“Kelvin has said that we should give up the home corner and sign the contracts, well we have done that but it appears he still doesn’t want the fight.

“Sniper will be main event on November 26, Duke (Luke Watkins) will be chief support and anyone else on the show will be on the undercard.

“We have done what we were asked to do, if the fight doesn’t happen in November then it won’t happen at all. It is now up to Kelvin.”
