TENNIS starlet Rebecca Heaps has topped off her summer holidays by winning the LTA 10U Summer National Tour finals.

The 10-year-old, from Lydiard Millicent, put in a magnificent performance in Bournemouth last Friday to claim the title.

Heaps managed to navigate her way through a 15-strong draw to reach the semi-final, where she met Lolita Winter-Smith from Avon, before beating her 3-5, 5-4 (3), 1-0 (8).

That win meant she would have to overcome Aryana Bartlett, also from Avon before sweeping her to one side 0-4, 4-1, 1-0 (10) to win the final.

The new champion trains with the Wiltshire Tennis Academy, which is based at Delta Tennis Centre, and is also a member of the Wiltshire LTA 10U & 12U county squads.

Heaps also attends the LTA national training camps, but is normally coached by Becky Prince, who was delighted for her pupil.

"We are very proud of her and to win Nationals is just reward for all her hard work all year,” said her coach.

After winning the title, there was no time to rest as she rushed back to Royal Wootton Bassett Tennis Club to see the Davis Cup, which is currently on tour thanks to GB’s earlier triumph.

Jessica Longjohn also took part in the tournament but se bowed out of the competition after losing at the semi-final stage.
