SWINDON youngster Max Cook has been selected to try out for the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup programme in Spain next week.

The 13-year-old will travel to Guadix, in Granada, on Monday to take part in the Road to Rookies Cup, with as many as a dozen riders then being selected to take part in next year’s Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup.

The programme was started in 2007 and has since been the breeding ground for a number of riders who have gone on to win Moto2 and Moto3 world titles.

Cook has been competing in the HEL Performance British Motostar Championship for the Team Repli-Cast UK Racing team this season and takes part in the final round of the series at Brands Hatch this weekend.

The Wiltshire youngster is taking part in free practice just after 11am this morning, followed by the first qualifying session later in the afternoon.

A second qualifying session follows on Saturday morning, with the first 10-lap race taking place at 2.25pm in the afternoon.

The weekend concludes with a warm-up on Sunday morning, followed by a 14-lap second race at 2.05pm.

Cook said: “It’s a circuit I really like and it’s the final round, and all I want to do is finish the season on a high and give myself and the team a good result.’’
