SWINDON Shock maintained their perfect start to the league season as they claimed their fourth straight victory at Woking Blackhawks.

David Colclough’s side faced a much stiffer test than when they travelled to Surrey for their National Cup tie at the start of the season.

“We never really trailed the first time we played them, I think we went in a bit over confident and it caught up with us,” said Colclough “Some of the players were better than I expected but they seemed really good and were in good form, it was a game we would have lost last year.

“There was a sense of urgency because we were trailing and everybody did that little bit extra to get the win.”

It was the hosts who were able to take an early advantage as they opened up an 11 point gap in the first quarter.

That lead was diminished by the end of the second period but the hosts still had a slender edge as they led by three points at the halfway stage.

Woking then responded with some baskets of their own as they took control, moving seven points ahead in the third quarter.

However, Shock were able to hit back late on, guard Lee Hobbis chipped in with some key baskets before Chris Coles hit a crucial three point play which put the New College-based side two points up with two minutes on the clock.

Spencer Wells was again the difference as he scored late on to hand Colclough’s team an 82-78 win in a high scoring game. Next up, Swindon will face fellow unbeaten side RTC Rhonda at Swindon New College.
