THE Wiltshire LTA were in a giving mood as they dished out the gongs as part of the AEGON British Tennis Awards recently.

Marshfield Tennis Club were presented with the Wiltshire Club of the Year Award, whilst the Community Venue Award went to Swindon Community Tennis.

The Delta Tennis Centre Swindon collected the Disability Programme award and Bishop Wordsworth’s School, from Salisbury, won the Education Award.

Simon Hutchings won the Outstanding Achievement award for his many years of fantastic work at Aldbourne TC and Highworth TC’s Simon Hennell collected the Coach Award.

Other award winners were Katrina Smith, from Salisbury TC, taking the Volunteer Award, and Highworth TC’s Thomas Atkinson, who picked up the Young Volunteer Award.

The awards are a joint initiative between The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), the Tennis Foundation, partner Aegon, and 40 county and national associations, including Wiltshire LTA. The awards recognise and champion the people who deliver tennis in communities across Great Britain.

The winners now go through to a regional judging panel, with those prizes announced in April. The national ceremony will then be held in London in 2017.

Wiltshire LTA also presented two awards in addition to the AEGON British Tennis Awards for Player of the Year and Team of the Year, with Delta’s Rebecca Heaps taking the player prize and the Wiltshire Ladies County Cup side the top team.

Wiltshire LTA also presented the LTA Meritorious Award on behalf of the Lawn Tennis Association to Swindon TC’s Beryl Watts for her many years of dedicated service to tennis in Wiltshire.
