MALMESBURY youngster Louis Harvey clinched a podium position at round one of the Shenington Winter Series.

After a six-week break from racing due to his chief mechanic - dad Chris - being ill, Harvey is aiming to get in as much winter practice as possible as he continues his fundraising campaign to enter the Super One Series on Sky’s Motors TV Off pace in his first practice session, the 12-year-old was soon putting in competitive lap times and a switch to dry tyres and set-up got him completely back on race form.

In foggy race day conditions, Harvey was 13th on the grid for heat one, but a superb start and stunning overtaking saw him challenge for the lead before he settled for a second-placed finish.

In heat two, with a fifth-placed grid position, he again crossed the line in second place to put him in contention for a pole position for the final.

Starting fifth in heat three, a quick set-up change put an end to his pole position challenge and a spin left him nearly a lap down.

Due to the close proximity of the leading pack behind him he was shown the blue flag, eventually finishing a lap down.

Qualifying fourth for the final, a clean start allowed Harvey to settle into the race and after the first few laps he was in third place.

Slowly closing the gap to the leaders, the final lap saw all three karts nose to tail but as they entered the last corner, the leading two karts touched and forced Harvey wide to end up in third position.
